About

The DeadLift Fairy was created in an effort to make functional neurology accessible for hypermobile people dealing with chronic pain. We do our best to provide free or close to free resources, because we feel like sharing pain relief information is the right thing to do.

The DeadLift Fairy was started by a Zebra, (probably) just like you.

Hi, I’m Laura!

I am hypermobile; I have hEDS and MCAS. I get migraines and am neurodivergent and queer. I struggle with presyncope and GI dysfunction. I don’t share my medical information as a resume. But I do want you to know that I truly understand how you feel, because I am you.

I have the profound privilege of having been trained by Missy Bunch and her functional neurology approach to pain while in my early 20’s. I was in daily chronic pain, using orthotics, and seeing every practitioner I could get referred to. I found Missy, who miraculously got me out of pain. We still talk about how we wish we had taken videos of my squat back then before she worked on me.

I progressed to Olympic weightlifting and got certified to coach oly lifting. It would be another 15 years before I got my hEDS diagnosis. Perhaps meeting Missy was what kept that diagnosis at bay, because chronic pain is a main diagnostic criteria. Functional neurology hid my chronic pain long enough for me to feel normal while I was young. I GREATLY under-appreciated the gift of Missy Bunch’s coaching at the time.

And now?? I have made it my life’s mission to bring functional neurology to every hypermobile person I can.

After spending some time in the tech world at a few startups, large companies, and VC firms, I made the leap to follow my soul. I studied all the functional neurology and hypermobility resources I could, and I built a thriving in-person practice supporting people just like me.

In an effort to support my health and family while helping as many people as possible, I’ve taken my years of coaching movement, strength, neurology, and my lived hypermobile experience and created accessible resources for everyone to learn from.

XOXO,

Laura, The DeadLift Fairy
